Banana-Leaf Art ? Yes, it is what the name says.
It's after 2:30 in the afternoon and most school children in Zambia are back from school, done their homework - for most of them, no tv, no nintendo game. They have to find something to do. And find, they do. In their "backyards" they have plenty of dry banana leaves ready to be burned, tall elephant grass also dry with summer heat and corn husks mama about to throw away. With those key elements PLUS the talent & willingness to try, these young artists are able to make what we now see in the art gallery and much more
Here are some of faces you may have seen as at one of the events here in the USA during their summer tours and live demonstrations.
For most of them, their 6-8 week experience here in America brings to their own discovery. The value of what things they already have at home: their God-given "gold" in the form of the golden elephant grass, the dry golden banana leaves and the silver corn husks.
They are given new hope and a chance to dream of the "impossible dreams."
Yes, you and I can be those agencies of this incredible change.
